they’re not going to be “cheap” right around the river walk! altho prices are down now – check hotels.com or expedia.

Any cheap hotel around the downtown area will not be something you would want to go for a get away unless you like sharing quarters with drug addicts and the homeless.
If it’s for a special occasion, spring for the extra cash for a nice room, or just go out for a nice dinner.

Hawkeye is correct. You won’t find a cheap hotel near or on the Riverwalk, but some of the ones a few blocks away are dumps full of transients, druggies, and hookers.
Spend a few extra dollars if you can. Even the Holiday Inn on the river is $149.

Not on the riverwalk, but close to it in downtown are other nice hotels that you could stay at like, Holiday Inn Market Square, or La Quinta Downtown. Check out hotels.com or something.
